Thassalocracy: Definition

The international state in which a Leviathan can enforce a Pax Minoica. Thassalocracy (literally, “rule of the seas”) can and ideally does include partners (generally very Minoan ones) other than the Leviathan itself. Leviathan acts as the leader or hegemon of the Thassalocracy, and ultimately provides most of the public goods, but trades some control of decision making to other members of the Thassalocracy and the disproportionate burden of supporting the Thassalocracy in exchange for legitimacy and the support of other nations, which ultimately it needs for the long-term stability of the system. In the modern day, the air and internet are extension of “the sea”, the medium in which trade of ideas and goods are exchanged.
